Major Supporters Back Teaching Public Service in the Digital Age
We’re delighted to announce that Teaching Public Service in the Digital Age has received significant financial support from some of the biggest names in institutional philanthropy.
Our mission is to ensure that those who educate current and future public service leaders embed key digital era skills into their curricula and training programs. In short, we train professors to produce public servants ready for the digital era.
This support will enable us to achieve our key target: to train and support 250 professors and educators, who will then go on to train at least 10,000 learners in the near future. Additionally the funding will enable us to transition from a largely informal project to a real, independent nonprofit with a long-term, legally-guaranteed commitment to publishing free, open access training materials, all while supporting a vibrant community of teachers, learners and researchers.
We are enormously grateful to Schmidt Futures, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Public Interest Technology Infrastructure Fund (a hosted project of New Venture Fund) for the trust they have placed in this community of instructors, and their belief in our vision of a world in which governments are staffed by people equipped with key digital capabilities, so that they have a better shot at overcoming the urgent challenges facing our societies.
The leadership team of Dr Amanda Clarke, Prof Dr Ines Mergel, Prof David Eaves and Tom Steinberg will continue to steward this work as we grow.
Thanks to this support we’re also pleased to share that have recently announced the first of a new series of Masterclasses, scheduled for May 2023, in which we’ll work with professors and lecturers to help them develop the skills and confidence to teach key digital skills to their students in public policy and administration.
